Facial Artery
Introduction
A branch of External Carotid Artery
It arises from the anterior surface of the carotid artery above the tip of the greater cornu of the hyoid bone
Course
Runs upwards on the superior constrictor (pharyngeal muscle)
deep to digastric and stylo-hyoid muscles
deep to the submandibular gland
then it curves around the inferior border of mandible and enters the cheek
It follows a tortuous course towards the medial angle of the eye lying deep to the dilator muscle of the lip
Branches
while on the superior constrictor it gives off a branch to the tonsil and soft palate
just before crossing the mandible - submental artery
at the level of the mouth it gives off labial artery
