The Pelvis
Formation
Formed by the two innominate bones
They articulate anteriorly at the symphysis pubis
They articulate posteriorly with the sacrum at the sacroiliac joints
Parts
Divided into two parts by the brim of the pelvis consisting of the promontory of the sacrum and the iliopectineal lines of the innominate bones.
1. Greater or false pelvis above the brim
2. Lesser or true pelvis below the brim
The Female pelvis and the Male pelvis
The shape of the female pelvis allows for the passage of the baby during child birth
The female pelvis has lighter bones than the male pelvis
More shallow and rounded than the male pelvis
More roomy than the male pelvis
The angle of the pubic arch is wider (obtuse)
