Uterine Tube
The Uterine Tubes. Syn : The Fallopian Tube
o The Fallopian tubes begin at the junction of the fundus and body of uterus and extend towards the ovary
o Lateral end free, expanded and open
o Lateral end has finger like processes called the fimbriae
o The longest fimbria is called the ovarian fimbria
o The remainder between the two layers of the broad ligament
Parts
o The fimbriated end called the infundibulum lies coiled behind the broad ligament
o Laterally the tube is tortuous and dilated - the ampulla
o The straight portion adjacent to the uterus - the isthmus
o The part in the wall of the uterus - intramural part
o Made of smooth muscle
o Mucous membrane - folds - ciliated columnar epithelium
o The peritoneum which covers the tube and forms a sheet is called the mesosalpinx
Blood Supply
o Tubal branch of the ovarian artery - below the tube - between the two layers of the broad ligament - anastomoses with the uterine artery
o Venous drainage into the internal iliac vein
Lymphatic Drainage
o Lymphatic drainage into the paraaortic nodes
